The Australian Aboriginal Mining Academy
AAMC will establish the Australian Aboriginal Mining Academy (Academy) around its Wonmunna and Extension projects. The purpose of the Academy is to provide Pilbara mine site based training and educational opportunities to Aboriginal people who wish to improve their skill sets so they can secure real and enduring opportunities in the mining industry. The Academy will focus on training for both white and blue-collar roles.
In addition to the obvious local community benefits the Academy would benefit AAMC, neighbouring iron ore projects and the broader Australian mining community through the training and development of employment ready Aboriginal mining graduates.
Students can encounter significant difficulties when they are asked to travel great distances from their communities to undertake training and education activities. A mining academy is likely to be more successful if it is established on an active mining operation within the Pilbara near the Aboriginal communities from which it draws its students.
Once the Wonmunna project is developed AAMC will contribute a royalty to an education trust that funds the Academy.
